Ipro Innovations Nets Record Turnout for Annual User Conference

Ipro Innovations Drew Large Crowds for World-Class Education and Fun

Tempe, AZ – May 4, 2016 Ipro Tech, LLC, a worldwide leader in the design of eDiscovery software, held its annual Ipro Innovations on April 25-27 for eDiscovery professionals. The event, which was held in Scottsdale, Arizona brought together litigation experts and attorneys to share ideas and make connections.

Ipro Innovations is a two and half-day educational event geared towards providing the global Ipro network of law firms, corporations, government agencies and legal service providers with the best knowledge and training possible to get the most out of their software investment, streamline their workflow and grow their businesses.

The conference hosted 70 educational tracks which gave Ipro partners and clients an opportunity to engage in hands-on product sessions, learn new industry trends and best practices from leading experts. The general sessions offered a sneak peak of new Ipro product innovations and Ipro’s ADD Automated Digital Discovery platform designed to simplify the eDiscovery process. Other speakers included Kelly Twigger, principal of ESI Attorneys, discussing how to Create Better eDiscovery Teams and a keynote session from Chris Valasek, white hat hacker, who famously hacked into the Jeep Cherokee. Ipro partnered with The Sedona Conference for a special Sedona Conference track, which included sessions on data security and privacy, new international data protection policies and recent Amendments to the Federal Rules. Speakers include David Shonka, Acting General Counsel, Federal Trade Commission and Michelle Burns, United States Magistrate Judge, Arizona, as well as leading experts on federal and international law.

Innovations also included fun activities including a kick-off party at Top Golf, a Salsa Challenge where contestants competed to make the best salsa by the ingredients they could get to first, or beg, borrow and steal. Attendees also got to participate in the Ipro Knowledge Bowl, a virtual trivial contest where players used their eDiscovery knowledge to battle for cash prizes. Chris Plauschinn of Commonwealth Legal took home the grand prize of $1250.

“Innovations had a record turnout this year, with a broad cross section of the industry represented. Having so many different groups present goes to the heart of what we’re trying to do as company, which is to bring eDiscovery teams together and make the process easier and more automated,” said Kim Taylor, President and CEO. “One of our goals with putting on Innovations is to give our customers a dynamic environment to learn, network and to get to know the Ipro team from all areas of the company.”

Innovations attendees can access information from the conference by logging in to their MyIpro portal at myipro.iprotech.com. Ipro has several upcoming events including two Sedona Conference webinars for those that weren’t able to attend Innovations and several regional Think, Drink and Be Social events. Ipro and TrialDirector Partner to Offer Online Deposition Video Repository in Eclipse

The partnership aims to expand the e-discovery review platform’s deposition transcription scope
Written by: Zach Warren, Legaltech News

Discovery is no longer just letters and other documents, or just emails and their attachments. Modern e-discovery means analyzing video, audio, social media, and a host of other multimedia channels that even the most robust e-discovery tool or practitioner may find challenging.

To bolster its own e-discovery review software’s video deposition analysis, Ipro announced on April 27 that it will be partnering with TrialDirector moving forward. The partnership allows Ipro to integrate TrialDirector’s product line, most notably online deposition video repository TrialDirector SHARE, into Ipro’s review platform Eclipse.

Eclipse already featured video transcript functionality, but this new partnership expands the program’s deposition scope. Ipro noted that users will now be able to import already synchronized deposition video files directly from TrialDirector SHARE, which will then be combined with documents and other transcripts already within Eclipse. Searches on this combined data, Ipro said, should “set for a clearer picture of the case.”

Kim Taylor, CEO of Ipro, told Legaltech News from the company’s Innovations conference in Arizona that the new integration is attempting to solve two issues at once – expanding multimedia support while also responding to customer requests for synchronized deposition video file support.

“The transcript module in Eclipse both on the desktop and the web-based version is quite robust and widely used. The synced video integration continues to improve Eclipse and expands its use past review, pushing its capabilities through trial and into the courtroom,” Taylor explained. “With the integration, users can grab copies from TrialDirector SHARE and add them directly into Eclipse with a push of a button. It made it a no brainer for us to develop the integration and capability within Eclipse.”

As to why partnering with TrialDirector specifically, Taylor pointed to the company’s position as a market leader; its network of court reporters and content creators that generate, support and sync their files; and the helpful location of both companies being located in the Phoenix area.

He also noted that the technology aligns well: “TrialDirector is launching an online repository, giving us a seamless way to access and to pull video transcripts into Eclipse from the TrialDirector SHARE repository in one step.”

This collaboration is far from the only improvement Ipro has made to its product line. In January the company expand its partnership with Content Analyst, while in September, Ipro  introduced its Automated Digital Discovery platform. With the ever-changing online world, though, Taylor said the company is continually trying to keep pace with technological advancements.

“There’s no question that the plethora of new file formats pose new challenges for collecting electronically stored information (ESI) data. What Ipro is focused on is ensuring that we keep pace with being able to ingest and manage these files as part of the larger document review collection,” Taylor said. “We already ingest hundreds of different file types and have important connections with the leading data collection tools. But we also want to stay ahead of the curve, and that’s why we jumped at the opportunity to pull the video synced transcript files into Eclipse.”

The company unveiled the partnership at its Innovations conference in Scottsdale, Arizona, a three-day event aimed at educating potential partners, customers, and interested e-discovery parties on both the company’s offerings and the latest trends in the industry. Taylor described this year’s event as “our best Innovations yet.”

“I believe we’ve given attendees a lot to take home with them from new connections to new product skills and insight for navigating the e-discovery challenges they’re facing. We also had a record turnout for certifications before and after the event; and we still have attendees hard at work today, getting trained and certified on our products,” Taylor said.

Ipro said the integration of the Eclipse e-discovery review platform and the online deposition video repository TrialDirector SHARE should be completed around the time of ILTACON 2016 in late August

Ipro and TrialDirector Announce Software Integration

TrialDirector 360

Industry Leaders Combine Forces to Improve eDiscovery and Deposition Video Analysis

Scottsdale, Ariz. – April 27, 2016 – Ipro Tech, LLC and TrialDirector, today announced new product integration between Eclipse, Ipro’s web-based eDiscovery review software and the TrialDirector product line including TrialDirector SHARE, TrialDirector’s online deposition video repository, providing attorneys with an efficient, streamlined way to access, search and analyze video transcripts together with other case documents for review and trial.

The new integration expands the transcript functionality already built in to Eclipse. With the integration, users can grab copies of already synchronized deposition video files from TrialDirector SHARE and pull them directly into Eclipse with a push of a button. Once in Eclipse, video transcript files are combined with other transcripts and case documents. Searches can be conducted across the entire data set for a clearer picture of the case.  The integration eliminates the need to work between disparate review and deposition systems to search, analyze and annotate documents and video files.  Work product created in Eclipse can then be transferred to TrialDirector for continued trial preparation and presentation in the courtroom.  Together, the product integration allows litigation teams to better manage more types of discovery data and take that critical evidence directly into the courtroom.

“Our goal is to make eDiscovery less complex so that our customers can accomplish more in fewer steps,” said Kim Taylor, President and CEO, Ipro. “Thanks to this integration, Eclipse users can easily add and search deposition videos as part of the larger collection, enabling attorneys to flesh out their case like never before.”

Eclipse, sold separately or as part of the ADD Automated Digital Discovery platform, is a web-based, world class review solution with built-in analytics and Technology Assisted Review (TAR) to pinpoint key documents smarter, faster and with greater accuracy. Synchronized depositions from TrialDirector are the easy way to review testimony, locate key elements and create and export video clips that contain both the video and the relevant text.

“The use of synchronized deposition video is extremely powerful and persuasive. By having one-touch integration with Eclipse, we’re empowering our shared customers to drive greater value from their eDiscovery review and prepare for trial,” stated Derek Miller, CEO and President of TrialDirector. “Ipro delivers the fastest way to get data into review, while TrialDirector SHARE offers a secure and simple way to access synchronized video files with the court reporter’s transcripts and transfer the files for review.”

The new product integration was announced and demonstrated today at Ipro’s Innovations Conference in Scottsdale, AZ.

Legaltech News Asks Is Automation What’s Next (and What’s Necessary) for eDiscovery?

Written by Kim Taylor, Ipro for Legaltech News

In response to the inefficient and messy state of e-discovery, there was a new star at Legaltech New York this year: automation

To kick off the start of each new year, the legal industry anoints a hot trend at the annual Legaltech New York conference. In 2013, Big Data took center stage. In 2014, the talk of the show was advanced analytics and technology assisted review (apparently its time had come). Information governance stole the show in 2015. In fact, all of these trends complement each other and show a consensus in the industry that we need a better way to deal with the dramatic growth of data and the increasing cost pressures it adds to litigation.

The data proliferation is undeniably overwhelming today’s litigation teams, while at times having an adverse impact on the overall outcome of cases. Large data volumes are cited for driving up discovery costs, creating excruciating delays and increasing the chances for human errors. Our industry has evolved over the years to meet this ever-increasing demand, and adopted complicated and disconnected workflows along the way. To collect, process, analyze, review and produce data, litigation teams have been forced to use disjointed and mostly manual systems creating an impossible workflow.

In response to the inefficient and messy state of e-discovery, there was a new star at Legaltech this year. The star was automation. To that, I would say, “nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come.”

So, what does automation mean to e-discovery? What it means is that tedious, time-consuming, manual processes are being converted to automated ones. Using advanced technology, litigation teams are now able to set up pre-defined templates to auto-copy data, auto-validate files, auto-process, auto-filter, auto-load, auto batch and auto-tag documents based on auto-keywords – all tasks that a year ago required a human touch. With the advent of automation, you’ll begin to see more predictability and more structure around how the industry conducts e-discovery.

A question you may be asking is, “If automating the e-discovery process is so essential, then why did our industry wait so long to develop it?” The reason: e-discovery is hard.

Think about all the disparate tools that organizations have used to perform a specific task in the EDRM workflow. Really think about it, there are search engines, early case assessment (ECA) tools, processing applications, review systems, analytics solutions, production tools and the list goes on…and on…and on.

The issue hasn’t been that there weren’t enough tools, but rather that there were too many. Yes, too many products to learn and too much data moving between them. Many of these individual tools were great at just one thing, but had additional features and functions hastily added to fulfill a gap or client request. Responding to the cries of customers struggling to integrate their applications, technology companies attempted to build or acquire functionality that pulled individual functions into the workflow together, with limited success. Established review software tried to add processing functionality or vice versa, but none could crack the code completely. Integration was an important improvement, but not the end-all, be-all.

Even with unification, our world remained a manual and error-prone environment. After collection, data would have to be broken apart into chunks in order to process it, where it would wait until a technical person could verify and approve it to be moved down the line to review; all of this consuming valuable time and resources.

What’s more, when you break apart data sets, you always run the risk that something will go wrong. All the copying, importing and exporting needed in this approach are the steps where mistakes are most likely to be made. All of these issues are precisely the reason why automation is so crucial to boosting efficiency and lowering the costs of e-discovery.

Once you have automation, continuous streaming of data is the next innovation. What does this look like? Let’s start with an analogy. When you want to watch a movie on Netflix, you find the movie, press a button and start streaming it to your TV or computer – instantly. Instead of downloading an entire file before you start watching the movie, Netflix took advantage of data streaming. The question is… if it’s possible to stream movies, then why not e-discovery data?  Now, you can.

With the right tools, you can do essentially the same thing. Instead of breaking electronic data into batches and then processing the batches, one after the other, you can feed a stream of data into the processing engine. As the system receives the data stream, it tracks and logs the incoming data, copies that data to the appropriate location, verifies that the data copied correctly, processes and filters the data according to pre-set parameters and automatically prepares the data for review.

Important productivity and cost gains can be had by adopting automation and data-streaming. In particular, you can drastically shorten the amount of time from when you receive data and when you are ready to work with it at a substantive level, prevent errors from happening, reduce human capital requirements and lower your overall costs. One thing to keep in mind with this advanced technology; you must look under the hood as you’re evaluating it. Automation is important, but quality is just as important. Many questions should be asked regarding how the data is being processed, what metadata is being captured, how are anomalies being handled, and can the solution grow and scale along with your case needs.

Automation has vast potential for our industry. Seek out partners that can introduce it to you in a meaningful way. Ensure they have a solution for the many places throughout the process where it can be leveraged to bring you significant efficiency gains and cost savings.
